The Foundry in Driffield has been named winner of the ‘2006 Town Pub of the Year’ and The Wellington Inn in Lund has been named ‘2006 Village Pub of the Year’ by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) – Hull & East Yorkshire Branch.
Members voted for their 2006 Pubs of the Year after carefully considering the following criteria: Community Focus, Atmosphere, Campaigning, Quality of Beer, Style/Decor, Service and Welcome, and Value for Money. For the pub to be eligible for the competition the licensee had to be present since the 1st January 2006.

The pub features in the new 2007 CAMRA Good Beer Guide and is described as: “A café and bar housed in the only building that remains of the old Victoria Foundry complex. The ground floor is divided in two: a front area with a tiled floor, comfortable bench seating, tables and chairs and a raised rear area with sofas and low tables. The walls throughout are bare brick and heavy beams are a feature.”
The Wellington Inn in Lund is owned and run by Russell and Sarah Jeffery.
Black Sheep Best Bitter; John Smith’s Bitter, Taylor Landlord and one or two guest beers are always available. The pub is described in the new 2007 Good Beer Guide as “The pub enjoys a prime location on the Green in this award-winning Wolds village. Most of its trade comes from the local farming community. It was totally renovated by the present owners, and features stone flagged floors, beamed ceilings and three real fires. This multi-roomed pub includes a no smoking room, a games room and a candlelit restaurant serving evening meals, Tuesday-Saturday.”
Branch Chairman, Alan Canvess, will present the award winners with framed certificates on the evening of Saturday 27th January.
