The Green Dragon in Beverley and the Crooked Billet in Ryehill are Voted Best Pubs in East Yorkshire

The Green Dragon in Beverley has been named winner of the 'East Yorkshire Town Pub of the Year 2007' and The Crooked Billet in Ryehill has been named 'East Yorkshire Village Pub of the Year 2007 ' by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) – Hull & East Yorkshire Branch

Members voted for their Pubs of the Year 2007 after carefully considering the following criteria: Community Focus, Atmosphere, Campaigning, Quality of Beer, Style/Decor, Service and Welcome, and Value for Money. For the pub to be eligible for the competition the licensee had to be present since the 1st January 2007.

The Green Dragon on Saturday Market in Beverley is owned by Mitchells & Butlers and is managed by Glyn and Alan Clarke.

The Tudor fronted pub is entered from a side passage and once inside you will marvel at the length of the bar. It dispenses up to 5 regularly changing guest beers, mainly obtained from Yorkshire microbreweries such as Cropton, Rudgate and Wold Top.

The Crooked Billet in Ryehill is owned by the Marston Pub Company and is run by tenants, Peter and Jacqueline Ling.

The real ale choice consists of 3 Jennings beers – Dark Mild, Bitter and Cumberland. Another three handpumps serve at least one more Jennings or Marston's beer and up to two guest beers. The 16th century coaching inn has stone floors, upholstered bench seats and a rear dining area.

Branch Chairman, Alan Canvess, will present the award winners with framed certificates on the evening of Saturday 16th February.

The Bell Hotel in Driffield, owned by George & Rita Riggs, was runner-up in the 'Town' competition. The other finalists were the Durham Ox in Beverley, Dog & Duck in Beverley, The Foundry in Driffield and the Mariners in Driffield.

The Plough Inn in Hollym, owned by Steve and Sue Martine and Darren & Rachelle Maynard, and the Hope & Anchor at Blacktoft, owned by Eddie and Liz Payne, were joint runners-up in the 'Village' competition. The other finalists were the Wellington Inn in Lund and the King William in Cottingham.
